Harry Cecil was born into the world on June 18, 1982 in Kansas City, MO. He was born into Alpha on October 8, 2001 at 1:10am as the ace captain, “Golden Ice,” along with his deuce anchor, Walter “Frozen Deuce” Washington, to form the elite ship of A.S. Hardknoxx.
Harry was always an active participant in organizations and events ever since he was young. In college, it has not varied much. Since starting his college career at Truman State University, he has sat on many positions, including but not limited to: Director and sergeant at arms of the Truman State gospel choir, Unique Ensemble; President, Secretary, Sergeant at arms, Service Chair, and Chaplain for Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Iota Xi Chapter, 1st Vice President of the Inter-Fraternity council; Vice president, Homecoming Chair, Service Chair, and President of the National Pan-Hellenic Council; McNair Scholar.
Besides the many organizations that Harry stays involved in, he is also very active in his field of study, Music. He is double major in both Music Education and Music Performance with a vocal emphasis. Singing has always been Harry’s number #1 love. Through his major, he has been given the opportunity to sing the male lead in the operas, Amelia Goes to the Ball, and The Gallantry. He has also sung the part of Paul in the esteemed Mendelssohn oratorio, St. Paul. Harry has also received Honorable Mention at the 2003 MMTA music conference. He was a member of the 2003 MMEA All-Collegiate Choir. He also has been Vice President of the Truman State Chamber Choir, and he is the Secretary of the American Choral Director’s Association at Truman State University. Although Harry is heavily involved in extra-curricular activities, he refuses to let his grades slip. Harry has made the dean’s list 3 semesters since attending Truman, and he is in the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.
Along with the NSCS award, Harry has also been honored for his involvement in student organizations. He was Coalition of African American Women’s 2002 Man of the Year. He was also Sigma Gamma Rho's “It Takes a Village” Most Involved Student for 2003.
Harry’s free time is quite lacking, but when he finds it, he likes to relax with his friends or just take a little time to himself and make it a Blockbuster night. Harry’s future aspirations are to pursue a doctorate degree in choral music with an emphasis in spirituals and the gospel music genre. From there he hopes to teach on a collegiate level and spread the joy of music to others.
