It all began in 1973......

“Insane” Iota Xi was founded on December 04, 1973 by three distinguished gentlemen: Bro. James Feazell, Bro. Anthony Young, and Bro.Theodis Golden at the campus of then Northeast Missouri State University (Now Truman State University).

From the beginning of its founding, Iota Xi was a strong chapter in Alpha land. Iota Xi has in the past years established itself in the community with numerous social programs, a diverse and active brotherhood, and by having one of the highest G.P.A.s of all Greeks.

Today, Alpha Phi Alpha, Iota Xi chapter continues to be a positive institution upon the Truman State University. The chapter has a reputation of producing hardworking, persevering, educationally focused and enlightened brothers who will continue to add to the legacy of the greatest fraternity ever established. Therefore, we call ourselves the "Insane Iota Xi". Through this period the chapter has crossed ninety-seven distinguished brothers who have all reached the success of an Alpha man. The chapter also started the first Multicultural Affairs Center (MAC) at Truman State University which has greatly touched the lives of African-American and other minority students. The chapter has also initiated the first Nepalese brother in the history of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.

Apart from the national service projects, Iota Xi have their own local service projects. They include Women’s Appreciation Day, Worship in African-American Tradition (WAAT), AIDS Awareness, Car Maintenance workshop, Self Defense Workshop, Credit history workshop, Family Advocacy Center, Relationship Forum, Voter’s Registration, Internship forum, Drunk driving awareness, etc. The chapter has also raised $500 through date auction for AIDS awareness charity in Zimbabwe. Numerous times Iota Xi has been awarded the most service oriented organization on campus.

Iota Xi has been known for hosting some of the best parties at Truman, and not to mention its talent in Step shows (four consecutive wins in last four homecomings 02,03,04,05).

Apart from these service projects, we are the first fraternity in Truman to host Annual Spring showcase that represents most of the NPHC fraternities and dance teams in Missouri.

The road to Alpha might be long and hard, and many have failed, but if you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you,

if you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, but make allowances for their doubting too;

if you can wait and not be tired by waiting, or being lied about, don't deal in lies,

Or being hated, don't give way to hating, and yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise

Then you may be invited to earn the right to see the light...
